It collects, preserves, researches, and presents the history of Tallinn, as well as material related to its residents and living environment. Officially established in 1937, the museum\u2019s collections date back to 1911.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Today, the museum gives a voice to generations of Tallinn\u2019s residents and captures the ever-changing spirit of urban life. More than just exhibitions, its spaces invite people to meet, reflect, and imagine the future of the city together with local communities and city leaders.<\/p>\n<p>The museum consists of seven distinctive branches that work closely side by side. Until then, the collections of historic items related to Tallinn was maintained by the City Archives.<\/p>\n<p>Over time, several affiliate museums have been established in historic buildings across the city. These include the cannon tower <a href=\"http:\/\/linnamuuseum.ee\/en\/kiek-de-kok\/\">Kiek in de K\u00f6k<\/a> and its adjoining tunnels beneath 17th\u201318th-century bastions, the Neitsitorn (Maiden Tower) of the city wall, and the former Town Council jail, now home to the <a href=\"http:\/\/linnamuuseum.ee\/en\/museum-of-photography\/\">Museum of Photography<\/a>. The main building of the Kadriorg Children\u2019s Park from the 1930s now houses the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linnamuuseum.ee\/en\/childrens-museum-miiamilla\/\">Children\u2019s Museum Miiamilla<\/a>. In Kadriorg, visitors can also explore the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linnamuuseum.ee\/en\/peetrimaja-eng\/\">House of Peter the Great<\/a>. In 2016, a display of <a href=\"http:\/\/linnamuuseum.ee\/en\/kiek-de-kok\/carved-stone-museum\/\">decorative stones carved by Tallinn masters<\/a> was opened in one of the bastion tunnels, and <a href=\"https:\/\/linnamuuseum.ee\/en\/the-peoples-museum-of-tallinn\/\">The People\u2019s Museum of Tallinn<\/a> (then known as the Tallinn Russian Museum) officially became part of the City Museum.<\/p>\n<h4>COLLECTIONS<\/h4>\n<p>The collections of the City Museum now include c 150,000 items connected to the history of Tallinn.<br \/>\nThe first statutes of the Tallinn City Museum from 1937 declare: \u201cThe aim of the Historical Museum of the City of Tallinn is to acquire, collect and preserve all items of historic and artistic value and related to cultural history that directly or indirectly are related to Tallinn, their research and presentation to the wider public.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4>VIRTUAL MUSEUM<\/h4>\n<p>In 2015 we started co-operating with Google Inc. and since October 2016 everyone has the chance to visit the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/culturalinstitute\/beta\/partner\/tallinn-city-museum\">virtual Tallinn City Life Museum<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0on Google Arts &amp; Culture platform. The virtual museum includes 3D tours of three of our sites \u2013\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/culturalinstitute\/beta\/streetview\/tallinn-city-museum\/0AFkLcCtYYAHcg\">City Life Museum<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in the Old Town,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/culturalinstitute\/beta\/streetview\/kiek-in-de-kok\/rgHPcCh_0ny7lw?sv_lng=24.74132687491783&amp;sv_lat=59.43475252492553&amp;sv_h=156.55&amp;sv_p=-13.299999999999997&amp;sv_pid=fIRqZCS97JDMUBU2uqBJAg&amp;sv_z=1\">Kiek in de K\u00f6k<\/a><\/strong>, and the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/culturalinstitute\/beta\/streetview\/peeter-i-majamuuseum\/0gGVj5wFC0hmgQ?sv_lng=24.79623242322191&amp;sv_lat=59.43764540823388&amp;sv_h=310.83&amp;sv_p=-13.299999999999997&amp;sv_pid=JjEuWDZWBmccmXJ2eDsM2A&amp;sv_z=1\">house of Peter the Great<\/a><\/strong>.
