Thanks to her exceptional skill and meticulous work, a Neo-Rococo furniture group from the museum\u2019s Brotherhood of Black Heads collection has undergone extensive conservation and is displayed once again.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Estonian Museum Annual Awards recognise outstanding achievements in the museum sector. This year, Tallinn City Museum received two nominations: the conservation of the Neo-Rococo furniture in the Conservation Project of the Year category, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linnamuuseum.ee\/en\/tallinna-rahvaste-muuseum-en\/garaaz-garazh-garage\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Garaa\u017e. \u0413\u0430\u0440\u0430\u0436. Garage<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a co-created exhibition at the Museum of Tallinn\u2019s Peoples, for the Community Friend of the Year Award.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Furniture full of surprises<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before conservation, the sofa, armchair and two chairs were in extremely poor condition. During the project, however, an unexpected discovery was made: the pieces had not originally been created as a matching set. Their unified appearance was developed only in the early 20th century, when they were used to furnish the drawing room of the Brotherhood of Black Heads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The conservation process revealed several fascinating details. Original upholstery fabrics were discovered inside the chairs, previously hidden wood grain patterns were uncovered, missing decorative elements were reconstructed, and new clues emerged about the possible origins of the furniture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Every decision made during the conservation process was carefully guided by the history, materials and individual story of each object.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The furniture is now stable, complete and suitable for exhibition. It forms part of the exhibition dedicated to the Brotherhood of Black Heads, which opened at the Tallinn City Life Museum in November 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Through authentic objects, the exhibition invites visitors to discover the history of Tallinn and explore the life and legacy of the brotherhood. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/linnamuuseum.ee\/en\/cat-linnaelumuuseum-en\/new-exhibition-from-22-november-the-wealthy-and-handsome-the-brotherhood-of-blackheads-in-tallinn-at-the-tallinn-city-life-museum\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Read more about the exhibition.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Special guided tours in March<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On 3 and 21 March, visitors took a closer look at the furniture and learned more about its conservation during the special guided tour:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>\u201cCome and See the Rat \u2013 Discover the Secrets of the Black Heads\u2019 Furniture!\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The tour focused on the conservation of the Neo-Rococo furniture for the exhibition <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Wealthy and Handsome. The Brotherhood of Black Heads in Tallinn<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Estonia\u2019s most prestigious museum awards<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Estonian Museum Annual Awards are the most prestigious honours in Estonia\u2019s museum sector. They highlight the valuable work museums carry out for their communities and visitors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The nominees represent exceptional initiatives and projects that enrich Estonia\u2019s cultural heritage. Their recognition helps increase the visibility of the museum sector and celebrates the people whose work preserves, interprets and brings history and culture to life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The awards are presented by the National Heritage Board in cooperation with the Estonian Museum Association and the Cultural Endowment of Estonia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 2026 awards were presented on 12 February at a ceremony held at the Ukuaru Music House in Rakvere, following the traditional annual museum conference.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year, 79 applications were submitted across nine categories. The most popular categories were Exhibition of the Year, with 15 applications; Promoter of Museum Education, also with 15; and Marketing Achievement of the Year, with 11.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis year\u2019s nominees clearly reflect the growing maturity of the sector and its expanding role in society. Museums are increasingly seen as open platforms for collaboration \u2013 places where community-based exhibitions, international research networks and bold initiatives addressing social issues are created.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe are also seeing new approaches to marketing and funding, with creativity, participation and impact extending far beyond museum
