And how about authentic Russian cabbage soup?
In this 120-page book you’ll find exciting recipes with a multifaceted history, as well as the story of the House of Peter the Great, also known as the ‘old palace’ in Kadriorg.

The first book in Tallinn City Museum’s series about food history reflects the changes that took place during this intriguing era: new food from beyond the sea began to appear on the tables of the upper class, such as kohlrabi, Savoy cabbage and aubergine; and court cooks were joined by foreign professionals, who brought other changes.

This book was a collaborative project with the restaurant Mon Repos. The recipes were devised under the guidance of chef Erik Prosvirin, and created with modern tastes and possibilities in mind. Its pages are illustrated with photos of the dishes and of the House of Peter the Great, as well as of the art collections of Tallinn City Museum and the Art Museum of Estonia.

Further books in the series will introduce recipes collected from the residents of Kalamaja (Tallinn’s oldest suburb) as well as dishes made in a medieval merchant’s kitchen. You’ll find exciting recipes from every era in Tallinn.

The book was the brainchild of Julia Kornejeva and Irina Krivorukova. Its texts were written by Julia Kornejeva and edited by Pia Ehasalu. The photographs are by Meeli Küttim, while the book was designed and elegantly bound in an historical format by Angelika Schneider.
The book is available in Estonian, Russian and English, making it an amazing gift for people from outside of the country.
Published by Tallinn City Museum, the book was supported by the Culture and Sports Department of the City of Tallinn.

The book can be purchased at Tallinn City Museum branches in the Old Town, Kalamaja and Kadriorg.
