Pikk Street tours and workshops at the People\u2019s Museum of Tallinn<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>For one day, the Pikk Street Festival brings together local residents and institutions that operate on Pikk Street. For one Sunday, the Old Town has a special kind of flair!<\/strong><\/p>\n

During the festival, you can peek into Pikk Street\u2019s courtyards, take part in workshops, browse a flea market, enjoy concerts and visit museums. The restaurants on Pikk Street will be setting up a long communal picnic table, at which both old friends and new acquaintances can gather.<\/p>\n

The Pikk Street Festival, organised by Tallinn City Museum, will be centred around the People\u2019s Museum of Tallinn in the heart of Pikk Street.
\nThe museum is open from 11 am to 6 pm and the exhibitions can be visited with a museum ticket. See more<\/a><\/p>\n

A small installation showcasing the history of Pikk Street and building no. 29a will be open in the foyer of the People\u2019s Museum of Tallinn. This building, once linked to the Nottbeck family, later became the home of the People\u2019s Museum.

\nCrafting on Pikk Street (at the long table)<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a workshop on the street in front of the People\u2019s Museum of Tallinn, kids can make a beautiful, folded book, decorated with pictures of the famous buildings located on Pikk Street. Any youngster who enjoys crafting and who would like to make a nice gift for a friend or their parents is welcome to take part.<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>Courtyard concert: \u2018My Favourite Songs\u2019. Performance by the Un Canto children’s choir<\/strong><\/p>\n

The courtyard of the People\u2019s Museum of Tallinn is a place where time seems to stand still, and where you can sense the atmosphere of the city as it was a century ago. Many local residents have walked here over the years, including artist Ants Laikmaa, who rented a studio on the second floor. A range of outhouses and a blacksmith’s shop have been preserved in the courtyard. The area has been captured in photographs from previous decades, and it has also been depicted by artists. Life in the courtyard is still lively today, with outdoor exhibitions and, for the third season in a row, a small garden with a wide variety of plants.<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>Landscape painting workshop. Painter, illustrator and art guru Katrina Kolk<\/strong> will be teaching people how to paint with acrylics. In the workshop, which will take place in Ants Laikmaa\u2019s old studio at Pikk 29a, you can learn about the artist\u2019s landscapes and the principles of the Pallas style of painting. Together, participants will analyse the structure and colour scheme of Laikmaa\u2019s works before getting the chance to create Pallas-style landscapes of their own based on a Laikmaa painting of their choice. Everyone can take their painting home with them.
\nThe workshop is open to participants aged 10 and up.<\/p>\n

Pikk Street tour:\u00a0\u2018Pikk Street and Literature\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

This tour will examine the past of Pikk Street and its connections to Tallinn\u2019s literary history. It will explore how the street has been portrayed in Estonian literature and how authors have depicted Tallinn in their writing. The tour will also talk about the meeting places of the Siuru literary movement, the murder of printer Julius Wilhelm Lackner and other events in local literary history.
\nThe tour in Estonian will be led by Karoli Loo<\/strong>, the Visitor Services Manager from the People\u2019s Museum of Tallinn. The tour in Russian will be led by Irina Krivorukova<\/strong>, the museum’s Learning Designer.<\/p>\n
