About Kiek in de Kök Fortification Museum

The Kiek in de Kök Fortifications Museum consists of four medieval towers and underground passages. It forms a museum complex over 500 meters long.

The display in the Kiek in de Kök tower and underground bastion passages gives an overview about the birth of the town, the history of its fortifications, weaponry and main military campaigns, times of plague and also about crime and punishment in the medieval town.

The underground tunnels also house the Carved Stone Museum, where is a display of decorated portals, pillars, reliefs and other carved stone fragments from the 16th to 19th centuries.

The exhibition in Maiden Tower reminisces the 80´s when there was popular cafe. Another display tells about times when the tower was artist´s workshop and home.
From the Maiden’s Tower, you can access the Stable Tower (Tallitorn) whitch is famous as the most haunted place in Tallinn, and Gate Tower (Väravatorn) atop the town wall.
