Laikmaa made the decision to move to Tallinn in the spring of 1903. That same year, he opened a school for young artists in the very building that now houses the Tallinn Museum of Peoples. This studio-school played a significant role in the history of Estonian art and culture. Over a century later, we too have the chance to immerse ourselves in the world of art and experiment with Laikmaa’s favorite painting techniques.

Family Day will take place in the same rooms where Ants Laikmaa lived and worked over 100 years ago. He described his first school like this: “In Tallinn, I got an apartment on Pikk Street in the house of von Nottbeck (diagonally across from the House of the Blackheads). The apartment has a large hall with a vaulted ceiling and four spacious windows — an ideal space for a studio.”

The painting workshop will be led by the versatile artist and illustrator Katrin Kolk, a graduate of the Pallas University of Applied Arts. Her work is known for its expressive and intuitive style. She has studied and worked both in Estonia and abroad, illustrated books, created monumental works, and participated in international street art festivals.
