In photography, we often see fanatics in their field in a good way. However, there are few whose “sparks” have burned brightly for 50 years in a row. Peeter Langovits is one of these photographers. His photographic scope, diligence and activity are remarkable.

Peeter Langovits began his active creative work in the early 1970s, already differentiating from other photographers at that time in terms of his motive choices and creative orbit of interest. He has said that while nature photography and beautiful women were photographed at the Tallinn Photo Club in the late 1970s, he captured the change in urban space and the “postapocalyptic” signs found in wastelands and peripheral areas. “Flight”, “Document K-500” “Traces on the wall” are good examples of this.

Peeter Langovits’ work is characterized by constantly expanding series and cycles, the most significant of which is the Morning in a New Residential District photographed in 1983 – the poetics of Väike-Õismäe’s morning life and the New Apartment, a 1986 series of plank empty Lasnamäe apartments and their settlement.

The first part of the exhibition consists of the aforementioned original works. The second part, however, is modern – the series “Urban Landscapes”, the newest works of which date from 2021, the earlier ones every few years. Photographs of the system of signs and patterns of street art in an abstract style are a reference to Langovits’ early work.

The audiovisual exhibition is based on an endlessly repeated presentation of the author’s 50-year-old work, the most important series and projects, and the stories heard by Peetri Langovits about the development of his work in different periods from the 1970s to the present day.
