Exhibition: Tales of Kalamaja

Outdoor Exhibition: Tales of Kalamaja

In a joking manner, one could say that we have opened the smallest museum branch in Estonia! The audio exhibition in the telephone booth featuring stories from local residents is yet another outdoor exhibition in the urban space, made possible by the contributions of the locals themselves.

In front of the Kalma sauna, at Vana-Kalamaja 9a, an old telephone booth has been installed as part of the renovation of Vana-Kalamaja street. Since mid-June, you can pick up the receiver and… not quite make a call, but listen to various stories by selecting a number related to Vana-Kalamaja street and the wider Kalamaja area. The stories have been narrated by the people of Kalamaja themselves, including observations from a dog walker, experiences of going to the sauna, yard and street games, tales about the famous Tops bar, and much more. There are a total of ten stories.

The telephone booth exhibition is open to everyone for free, 24/7, and will remain a permanent part of Vana-Kalamaja street.

We thank all the local people who agreed to share their stories!

Currently, the stories are only available in Estonian.
