Mural produced at Vabriku 7 in Kalamaja
in collaboration with the local community

Art and the community come together during Kultuuriöö in Kalamaja!

A mosaic workshop was held at Kalamaja Museum (Kotzebue 16) on the evening of 30 August giving people the chance to create their own art pieces for the surrounding urban space.

The workshop was led by Salme Kulmar, a mosaic and street art enthusiast with a background in art teaching. She has been leading painting and mosaic workshops since 2014.

As part of the workshop, a painting of houses in Kalamaja was produced on the front of the building at Vabriku 7. It was completed using the mosaic fish created in the workshop, which were arranged between the painted houses and jumping in and out of doors, windows and chimneys.

This new showpiece mural was produced in collaboration with the Kalamaja community.

Its creation was assisted by Kultuuriöö, Tallinn Culture & Sports Department, Kalamaja Museum and the resident and owners of the Vabriku 7 building.

The artist behind the mural is Salme Kulmar, while the mosaic fish were made by members and friends of the local community.
