About Fishes and Houses
The tour takes you around the museum house, telling the story of the inhabitants and the houses of Tallinn’s oldest suburb.
We will see how we feel about the fish in our sea and see if we dare to taste any of them. We will also see when and why Kalamaja started to turn into a densely populated suburb from a village. Kalamaja in 1927
On our city tour, we head to the streets of Kalamaja along the paths of last autumn’s outdoor exhibition “Where Even Sunrays Will Not Reach”.
We take a look at photojournalist Hans Soosaar’s series of images of the meagre living conditions in Põhja-Tallinn taken in the 1920s and travel back in time to 90 years ago. What was life like in the basement flats? What troubled and delighted the residents of Kalamaja at the time?
